Neighborhood Units
Units provide opportunities for members to meet in small groups to discuss issues and organize local action.
If you are interested in the League, you are welcome to attend Unit meetings. This is a great way to be introduced to LWV Chicago and its activities. Unit meetings are open to the public.
Loop Unit

Northside Unit

Meets fourth Tuesday of each month at 6 pm at Sulzer Regional Library (4455 N Lincoln Ave)
Southside Unit

Meets third Monday of each month at 6 pm via Zoom
Far Southwest Side Unit

Committees
LWV Chicago has several standing committees. Some assist with the administration of the League, while others focus on advocacy or voter service.

City Government Committee
Margaret Herring, Chair
This committee educates League members and the public about Chicago City Government and recommends action by LWV Chicago when consistent with League positions and principles.
The committee often focuses on the City Council, tracking issues before the Council, observing how Council committees function, and encouraging government transparency. Get involved.
Community Oversight of Public Safety (COPS) Committee

This committee focuses on efforts to ensure public safety and police accountability in Chicago.

Environmental Action Committee
Claudia Jackson & Julia Utset, Co-chairs
This committee actively engages League members to advocate for an environmentally sustainable, environmentally just Chicago.
Some local projects include CEJA implementation in Chicago, increasing Chicago recycle rates, and reducing single-use plastics. Learn more about this committee’s work and get involved.
Ranked Choice Voting Committee
Jane Ruby, Chair
Ranked choice voting (RCV) improves fairness in elections by allowing voters to rank candidates in order of preference. Our RCV Committee is working to get RCV passed in Chicago. Contact president@lwvchicago.org to get involved.
Schools Committee
Rae Sokolow, Chair
This committee monitors issues related to education policy and public education financing in the city of Chicago and in the state of Illinois. Get involved.
Voter Service Committee
Helene Gabelnick, Chair
This committee guides members to become Deputy Voter Registrars and Election Day poll watchers, holds voter registration events and candidate forums, and educates the community on voting, the candidates, and the issues. Get involved.
Communications Committee
Carrie Eisner, Chair
This committee spreads the word about the Chicago League news and events. Committee members assist with social media posts, website updates, and email communications.

Committee on Diversity and Inclusion (CODI)

This committee works on the League's commitment to having a diverse membership of people from different backgrounds, including race, ethnicity, religion, gender, education, and income level. Get involved.
Events Committee

This committee maintains the calendar of Briefings and the Chicago in Focus series, and helps with promotion and events for LWV Chicago. Get involved.
Membership Committee

This committee works to attract new members and keep existing members engaged in League activities. Membership works with the other LWV Chicago committees to ensure that members at all levels of interest may participate in the democratic process.
