LWV Chicago Joins ERA Protest at National Archives
On Saturday, December 28, the League of Women Voters of Chicago proudly stood alongside leaders from Vote Equality and Equal Means Equal in a protest at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. Together, we called on President Joe Biden to take decisive action to publish the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). LWV Chicago President Jane Ruby represented LWV Chicago at the event.
The protest highlighted the growing momentum behind the ERA, a century-old fight for gender equality that reached a critical milestone with Virginia’s ratification in 2020 as the 38th state to approve the amendment. Yet, the ERA remains unpublished due to procedural barriers.
The League of Women Voters has long championed the ERA as a fundamental step toward protecting against gender discrimination and advancing equality. Saturday’s protest was a reminder of the power of collective action and the importance of holding our leaders accountable.
As we move into 2025, the League will continue its advocacy for the ERA, amplifying the voices of those demanding equality. Let’s make 2025 the year the ERA becomes the 28th Amendment!
