Introducing Girl Scouts to Voting
We hosted an exciting workshop with the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana on October 20. This inaugural event, part of a national partnership between the League of Women Voters and Girl Scouts of the USA, introduced Scouts from 1st through 8th grade to key concepts of democracy, voting, and elections. The girls earned their Democracy Badge and received the Promote the Vote patch, an award created in partnership with LWVUS.
The Scouts participated in activities like a voting simulation, crafting a "Democracy Flower," and role-playing decision-making scenarios, all designed to help them understand the importance of their role in our democracy, even before they are old enough to vote.
LWV Chicago would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana for partnering with us on this impactful event. A special shout-out goes to Liz Lefeu Boivin, the dedicated scout leader who made the day possible. We are excited to expand our collaboration with the Girl Scouts into a long-term, mutually beneficial partnership, empowering future generations to engage with and uphold the values of democracy.
